5 Tips For Unplugging From Social Media #HowToDeal

Have you noticed yourself scrolling endlessly online looking at posts, pinning on Pinterest or sharing funny memes on Facebook? It's fun and amusing but if it's something you've noticed taking up too much of your time, you might consider taking a step back.

Here's a few tips on taking a step away from social media and unplugging.

1. Set A Timer

I've saved minutes/hours in my mornings and evenings by setting a timer on my phone and giving myself only a certain amount of time on social media. 5 minutes to look at whatever I want to look at and 15 minutes for emails is my personal reminder to get on with other things I need to in my day.

2. Quit An Account

Have you ever wanted to not have a Facebook account? Or maybe you have an IG account you don't really use. It might be nice to either one, delete it or not even bother to check into that social site.

3. Plan Other Activities

Other things I do when I'm not on social media; reading books, writing, drawing, (wanting to take up knitting and painting) find some recipes in a couple cook books I have and pick which one I want to learn. Also reading the paper, playing the guitar - find other things you enjoy and start putting some time into them. I find this as a creative outlet and also find it to be therapeutic.

4. Re-connect With Friends & Family

This is something you may have to use your phone for but I encourage you to call or text over Facebooking. Re-connect with people in your life you miss or maybe wish to hang out with. Make plans to get together and this is something else you can look forward to that you'd really enjoy. My husband and I live in California and our families live in Missouri. It's nice to talk with them through FaceTime or call them up to chat and see what they're up to.

5. Get Some Sunshine

Go outside and go for a walk. Trust me, this one thing feels great and doing this alone will turn any bad mood I might be in into a better one. I've done this when I was sad about something or stressed out about whatever and just going outside for a few minutes begins to change my outlook- sunny D all the way! I also really enjoy meditating and that leaves me feeling great whether I do it outside or inside.

Let me know you thoughts on this topic and check out my podcast on it as well! You can listen to it here and/or watch my YT video I've just uploaded.

This is a new series I'd like to do on my blog each Tuesday - YAY and I'm also going to share the new book of the month for my book club. Hope you guys are having a good start to the week.

XOXO
