September's Book

Hope you guys are having a great shorter work week! I just realized it was the 7th and haven't officially let you all know what book I picked for the month. It's a heavier read but the story sounds fascinating and it's from a great writer, Haruki Murakami.

If you were a part of last month's read, we read Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. I had some mixed feelings on it but ended up liking where it went in the ending.

*SPOILER ALERT* If you haven't read the newest HP book - I really didn't like the beginning with how much Harry's son, Albus hated school and was picked on. The dad-son relationship just made me a little sad and mad at Harry's character but again, the ending was 👌🏽 & Voldemort had a daughter?!?! Loved that, also didn't see it coming.

So for this month's book, I chose 1Q84 & honestly feel a little intimidated picking this one out because, I mean, it's pretty large book with smaller font & the two previous books I've picked were lighter reads that really wouldn't take too much time to get through. But check this summary out from Amazon!

"A young woman named Aomame follows a taxi driver’s enigmatic suggestion and begins to notice puzzling discrepancies in the world around her. She has entered, she realizes, a parallel existence, which she calls 1Q84 —“Q is for ‘question mark.’ A world that bears a question.” Meanwhile, an aspiring writer named Tengo takes on a suspect ghostwriting project. He becomes so wrapped up with the work and its unusual author that, soon, his previously placid life begins to come unraveled. As Aomame’s and Tengo’s narratives converge over the course of this single year, we learn of the profound and tangled connections that bind them ever closer: a beautiful, dyslexic teenage girl with a unique vision; a mysterious religious cult that instigated a shoot-out with the metropolitan police; a reclusive, wealthy dowager who runs a shelter for abused women; a hideously ugly private investigator; a mild-mannered yet ruthlessly efficient bodyguard; and a peculiarly insistent television-fee collector. A love story, a mystery, a fantasy, a novel of self-discovery, a dystopia to rival George Orwell’s—1Q84 is Haruki Murakami’s most ambitious undertaking yet: an instant best seller in his native Japan, and a tremendous feat of imagination from one of our most revered contemporary writers."

I'm pumped read this one - special thanks to Beth for lending it to me =) I've started on it and was impressed by how quickly I was pulled into the story. I've found it very interesting from only the first few pages and am excited to read more!
